Future of telecommunications – Part 1

Following the huge success of my “How to build your own Mac” article, I’ve decided to start writing these in-depth articles on a bi-weekly basis. I do have a fairly hectic schedule, so it may not be exactly bi-weekly, but I will try to post them regularly. These articles will either be technology (geek) posts, or art essays. This week, we’re going to take a look at telecommunications, including mobile (cell) phones, VOIP and Skype.

It’s official – HD-DVD is dead.

In a press release a few days ago, Toshiba made it official. They have abandoned the HD-DVD format and will stop production and distrubution of all players and movies within the next couple of months.

How to build your own Mac

Is this a Mac? Or a PC? Or is it both?After countless hours of testing, building, selling, re-testing, researching, and installing, I have been able to find the exact set of PC components that allow me to run a full-fledged Mac with the latest operating system and all features. But more specifically, I have found the parts that do it all really well. It’s actually pretty easy to get OSX to run on your PC. Any number of cheap computer parts will get you a decent fake Mac. However, as with all PC’s they often do so at the cost of ugliness and noise.

My New Apple Hackintosh

No… I didn’t misspell that. I now own a Hackintosh instead of a Macintosh. Since Apple went to the Intel chips a couple of years ago (using commonly found PC parts), there has been a lot of development work around getting the Apple OSX Operating System to work on non-Apple hardware. As a result, they have been able to get OSX working near perfection now with the latest Leopard system.

Blu-Ray movies are FRIGGEN AWESOME!

Watched Spiderman 3 and The Simpson’s Movie on Blu-Ray this weekend and the quality of the image over standard DVD is simply jaw dropping.
