About A7

A7 is a conceptual artist currently residing in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Although he works in a variety of media, his main focus at this time is video-based installation, and single-channel short video works.

A7 was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario. He has an education in Computer Science, and has worked in Information Technology as a PKI systems analyst for several years. His heart, however, was in another place. He longed for artistic creativity, and spent his free time exploring his artistic and creative interests, including airbrushing his car by hand, painting, and building a variety of personal sculptural pieces. When the Ottawa IT market began its downward spiral, he decided it was time for a change of career. He quit his job in Ottawa and moved to Toronto to raise money for his arts education. After a few short months in Toronto, he made the choice to study at the Ontario College of Art and Design, and permanently relocated to Toronto with his wife. In September of 2003, he started as a full-time student in the Arts Degree stream, and recently graduated with honors, earning a Bachelor’s Degree of Fine Arts with an Integrated Media major. Using a diverse range of media, including painted, sculptural, electronic, and video elements, A7 is currently creating a variety of video installations and single channel videos. His subjects are ever-changing, but are strongly tied to conceptual and philisophocal ideas surrounding human nature, including sexual diversity, violence, abuse, security, surveillance, and self-reflection. His work is concept driven, and he lets the nature of the work dictate the media and form.
