About A7
Andy Morris – or A7 as he is known in the arts community – is an artist at heart. “Throughout my life, creativity has been the thread that weaves it all together”, he explains. He has a passion for art, and works with a diverse range of media, including painted, printed, sculptural, electronic, and video elements.
Andy also has an education in computer science, and professional experience in information technology and systems analysis. When the Ottawa IT market began its downward spiral, he decided it was time to change his career path. He quit his job in Ottawa and moved to Toronto to raise money for his arts education, a passion of his since childhood. After a few short months in Toronto, he made the choice to study at the Ontario College of Art and Design, and relocated to Toronto with his wife. In September of 2003, he started as a full-time student in the Arts Degree stream, and graduated in 2007 with an Integrated Media major.
Andy is a conceptual artist who recently returned to the Ottawa area and is currently creating a variety of paintings, print designs, video art installations and single channel videos from his new home in Stittsville Ontario. His subjects are ever-changing, but are strongly tied to conceptual and philisophocal ideas surrounding human nature, including sexual diversity, violence, abuse, security, surveillance, and self-reflection. His work is concept driven, and he lets the nature of the work dictate the media and form. He also formed his own new media company, Hotcakes New Media and currently acts as creative director and interaction designer.
